Wonderstruck
In Wonderstruck, director Todd Haynes tells the story of two deaf children and their search for their father and mother. Rose is a deaf girl that boards a train to New York in 1927 looking for her mother. Ben is a boy that became deaf after a lightning strike and leaves to look for his dad in the same American metropole, 50 years after Rose’s quest,. The two story lines rotate, and alternately use black and white images and coloured scenes. What makes this film so remarkable – apart from the outstanding acting – is the absence of dialogue. The images carry the story, and create a sense of being part of the film, being sucked into the story.
