During the final evening of our 13th edition, we treat all visitors to the six best submissions of our second short film competition.

Oceans of love, fragments of a found diary

'Ocean of love, fragments of a found diary' is a fairy tale about a girl who does not feel at home in the world that surrounds her. The film is based on a semi-autobiographical short story of the same name by Ines Tambuyser who plays herself the lead role in the film. Jolke Van Aerde and Ines Tambuyser take the viewer on a playful visual journey throughout their fantasy.

'Grinta' is a short fiction film. It shows the world through the eyes of Kenneth, who struggles with Multiple Sclerosis and still keeps it hidden from those around him. During a football game he faces a tipping point.

Winking Out

'Winking Out' is a short film that recounts the experience of an epileptic seizure as seen from the inside. Through the medium of film, the director transposes the symptoms and after-affects into an artistic form, bringing visibility to an illness that is still little known.

During an ascent up the mountain Felix (17) realizes that his older brother Paul's (24) chronic illness multiple sclerosis has already severely limited his mobility. While they walk memories of their childhood are awakened and a deep fear about an uncertain future grows.

Zosia is a 13-year-old CODA – a hearing child of deaf adults. Together with her dad she sets off to fight for her dream swimming competition, in which due to her father's oversight she is not allowed to participate. Along the way, they encounter complications that put Zosia in the role of interpreter and intermediary between her deaf father and the rest of the world. Having a voice starts to be not only a privilege for the girl, but also a burden.

When Sam splits up with her partner, she is forced to move back into her childhood home with her mother and neurodivergent brother. When depression sinks in, her brother Emmett gets in her face trying to cheer her up and in doing so makes everything worse. But when Emmett is confronted with a situation at a baseball game where he is called a chicken, Sam rises to the challenge to come to his aid and is reminded of what is truly important.

Chicken features a neurodivergent cast and crew and is written and directed by women.
