In het donker gezien (Seeing in the dark) (16h00)

Director: Juliëtte Dominicus Year: 2021 Duration: 25 min Spoken language: Dutch Subtitles: English, Dutch audiodescription available via Earcatch Partner: Pasform

“What if sight falls away? How does one experience the world?”

The couple Yany and Tinah and the sisters Sandra and Marjoke are blind. Yany and Tinah have their own exposition, named ‘In het donker gezien’ (Seeing in the dark). They let seeing people experience what it is like to use your non-visual senses. Sandra and Marjoke both grew up in a completely blind family – one exception: Sandra was not born blind.

The documentary ‘Seeing in the dark’ bundles Yany, Tinah, Sandra and Marjoke’s stories. They show the audience how disabilities in life can be turned into strengths – a lesson in agency and positivity, an ode to the other senses and an inquiry into the world of the blind experience. With this documentary, seeing people can learn how to see in the dark as well.
